Biography

Mike Sikorsky has been calling and teaching square dancing for 38 years. He is on staff for the RIVCO festival each year in Indio, CA, which had a record attendance of over 1100 enthusiastic dancers in 2009.

Mike is currently writing a manual on how to call Square Dance Patter. This calling system will consist of Activators, which will be combined at the discretion of the caller, creating a patter Stream. In essence, there will be 10 ways to do each Activator. So combining 2 Activators gives the caller over 200 possible streams. Combining 3 Activators into a Stream gives the caller over 6000 possible Stream creations, using just a few Mainstream calls. Mike hopes to debut his manual at the callers class this November in Indio, CA, on the 3 days just before the 4 day RIVCO festival. The callers class will also feature Wade Driver and Johnny Preston, with guest appearances by Ken Bower, Gary Shoemake, and Marshall Flippo.

For the first time in several years, a multi day package square and round dance event will be held at a major hotel casino in Las Vegas in September 2010. A few years ago, Mike Sikorsky was asked to write songs for a play. This musical has been “on the shelf” for a few years, due to life complications of the playwright. In September 2009, the first draft of the play was completed, and the first “walk thru” took place. The actors loved the songs & the play, and gave the playwright, Geri Koeppel, some ideas for further development of the story line. Ms. Koeppel liked one of Mike's songs so well, she decided to name the play, “Strip Mall Blues; the Search for Culture in Phoenix”. As you can tell, the play is a comical satire.

People are already expressing interest in the week-long cruise that will feature Mike Sikorsky calling, tentatively scheduled for December 2011. Watch for the early bird special.
